The best scoreboard overlays for OBS, compared
StreamSlayers · Updated October 6, 2026 · 6 min read · Works with OBS, Streamlabs, Meld & evmux
Every scoreboard overlay for OBS works the same way on the surface: you get a URL, you add it as a browser source, and a scoreboard appears on your stream. What separates them is one question: who keeps the score? Some tools follow the real game and update the score by themselves. Others give you a remote control and you tap in every point. Pick the wrong kind and you will either be typing scores all night or paying for live data you never use.
The quick answer
- Streaming a pro or college game you are watching (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college football, the Premier League, the Champions League…)? Use an automatic overlay. StreamSlayers fills in the teams and keeps the score, clock and situation updated from live game data, so you never touch it.
- Streaming your own game, such as a club match, a rec league, a school game or an esports bracket that no data feed covers? Use a manual scoreboard like OBScoreboard, ScoreLayer or KeepTheScore and keep score from your phone.

StreamSlayers: the score keeps itself
StreamSlayers is built for streaming games you don't control. Pick tonight's matchup in the dashboard and the overlay fills in logos, team colors and records, then follows the game on its own: the score, the clock, down and distance, the count and the runners on base, power plays, stoppage time. On paid plans it checks for new data about every 3 seconds while the game is live and stops at the final.
There are two ways to show a game. The Scoreboard is a full matchup card with team stat leaders, box score pages and an around-the-league grid of every game that day. The Multi-Sport ScoreBug is the slim bar along the edge of the screen, in 14 broadcast themes. There are guides for NFL, college football, NBA, NHL, MLB and soccer streams.
It is the wrong tool if you mostly stream games no live feed covers. It can be scored by hand, but if hand scoring is all you need, the manual tools below are built around it.
OBScoreboard
OBScoreboard is a manual scoreboard aimed at clubs and leagues that stream their own matches. It covers more than 15 sports, including several that pro data feeds don't, such as GAA, darts, padel and pickleball, and you update scores, timers and team names from any device. It works with OBS, vMix, Streamlabs, Wirecast and other apps that take a URL overlay. Plans are sold by the year, from $90 to $1,200.
ScoreLayer
ScoreLayer is a manual scoreboard you control from the browser, with overlay styles for ten sports including American football, basketball, hockey, soccer, rugby and boxing. Its free plan covers one scoreboard and three hours of live overlay a month, which suits someone who streams a game now and then. Venues can also sync it from their stadium scoreboard.
KeepTheScore
KeepTheScore makes scoreboards you update from your phone. The same board can run as a stream overlay or full screen on a venue display, and it sets up the right fields for each sport, such as down and distance or innings and outs. Paid plans are $14 and $26 a month.
How to choose
- Is the game in a live data feed? If it is a pro or college game, an automatic overlay saves you from scoring it by hand. If it is your own game, use a manual tool.
- How much do you want on screen? A slim scorebug suits gameplay or a camera feed; a full scoreboard card suits halftime, postgame and talk segments.
- How often do you stream? A few games a year fits a free or small plan. A weekly show is worth a plan that covers every league you talk about.
Adding any scoreboard overlay to OBS
Every tool here uses the same three steps. Copy the overlay URL the tool gives you. In OBS, click Sources → + → Browser, paste the URL and set the size to 1920×1080. Then position the scoreboard with the tool's own size and placement controls. For the StreamSlayers version step by step, see how to add a live scoreboard overlay to OBS.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the best scoreboard overlay for OBS?
It depends on who keeps the score. For pro and college games — NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college football and 23 soccer competitions — StreamSlayers fills in the teams and updates the score by itself from live game data. For your own club, rec-league or esports games that no data feed covers, a manual scoreboard such as OBScoreboard, ScoreLayer or KeepTheScore, where you tap in each point, is the better fit.
Is there a scoreboard overlay that updates the score automatically?
Yes. The StreamSlayers Scoreboard and Multi-Sport ScoreBug follow the real game from live data — score, clock, period, down and distance, count and bases — and check for new data about every 3 seconds while a game is live on a paid plan. Manual tools update when you change the score yourself.
Do scoreboard overlays work with Streamlabs and vMix?
Yes. Every tool in this comparison runs as a browser source, so it works in OBS Studio, Streamlabs Desktop, vMix and other apps that accept a web page as a source. No plugin is needed.
How much does a scoreboard overlay cost?
As listed on each website in October 2026: StreamSlayers is $14.99 a month for one app or $29.99 a month for all Pro Slayer overlays and apps, 20% less billed annually; OBScoreboard plans run from $90 to $1,200 a year; KeepTheScore’s paid plans are $14 and $26 a month; ScoreLayer has a free plan with one scoreboard and 3 hours of live overlay a month.
Can StreamSlayers score my own game by hand?
Yes. The Scoreboard and the ScoreBug have a manual scoring mode for games that aren’t in any feed. StreamSlayers is built around automatic live data, though, so if hand scoring is all you need, a dedicated manual tool may suit you better.
